SMARTConstruction is like a small consulting service housed within Komatsu Company-owned Dealer. We form a partnership by providing a suite of services that help ensure that our customer’s projects are successful. We like to use the tagline, “Project Manager Assistant, from before A to after Z and everywhere in between.”
What is a 3D model and why do I need it?
Simply put, a 3D model is the digital rendering of the paper plan set. This is what drives machine control and how the GPS equipment knows what needs to happen at any point along the project.
Can Komatsu i-Machines work on a project that has a Trimble base station already set up?
Yes – in most cases. There are very few Trimble base stations that we have not been able to work with. This is the same for Leica.
Why should I use drone surveying?
Drone surveying is a fast, cost-effective way of controlling what is happening on your jobsite. These surveys can be conducted quickly and you can see results within a day. It’s a good way of getting as-built conditions, as well as having visual documentation throughout the jobsite. Drone surveys can be used for: SWPPP inspections, jobsite tracking, cut/fill tracking, and other visual observations.
What do I need to run a full GPS site?
To run a full GPS site, you will need a few items: base station, 3D model (TIN surface), control points, and possibly a rover (if you want to check in). Some of this is flexible if you want to build a simple flat surface, for example. Best to contact Komatsu Company-owned Dealer and make sure we can get the project kicked off on the right foot.
